Share, learn, teach, and dream
In May of 2018 I met Emma at my monthly Stitch & Hoot in Elgin, Texas. We were both sharing about things we were trying to figure out for our own small creative businesses, and how cool it would be to have a local group for women makers and artists whose sole function was to fully support each member creatively, and help each other navigate branding, social media, marketing, and general business best practices.
I fell asleep that night thinking about it, and actually I’d been thinking about it for a while. Apparently Emma had been thinking about it. When I woke up the next morning I knew we needed to start one and I couldn’t wait to talk to her about it. We made plans to meet for lunch and talk about our vision for the group, and the rest as they say, is history (or more to the point, herstory).
Since the beginning we’ve all talked about how we leave each monthly dinner feeling so encouraged and ready to learn more and do good work. We are always pushing each other to do things sooner than we would have on our own. Being part of this amazing group of talented and brilliant women is both humbling and inspiring. I always look forward to sharing our dreams, failures, and successes over dinner. One of the best things about our group is that each member has many opportunities to be both student and teacher.
Emma and I founded She Creates Union on the premise that nothing is more valuable than sharing our experiences to help each other make better decisions. For now our group is small and we take turns hosting in our homes which has cultivated a generous and intimate space for our members to share, learn, teach, and dream.
